Planning a First, Second or Third Birthday Party!

pp

With the arrival of Prince Louis Arthur Charles last week and Princess Charlotte’s birthday this week, we’re in the party mood over in Parsons Green this week. For this week’s post we thought we’d focus on how to style and plan three gorgeous themes for the little one’s big day.

Below you’ll find inspiration for planning three neutral and totally timeless themes: full of colour, fun, and plenty of scope for letting your imagination and creativity (or someone else’s creativity) run wild. These are charming party themes that have stood the test of time, and will still be relevant long after those ‘Frozen’ parties are a thing of the past…

The Very Hungry Caterpillar..

This classic children’s book has inspired many a toddler’s birthday party thanks to its colourful appeal and timeless charm. Create a long and winding caterpillar sandwich platter by arranging circles of sandwiches on a large tray, with cucumber wedges for feet and a ripe red tomato for its head. With green and red balloons, you can also create a giant, hanging caterpillar display for your party room, and there are plenty of colouring-in printables available online, too. Just set up a colouring station with a big jar of crayons, and check eBay for all manner of themed party accessories: bunting, party bags – the lot!

Teddy Bear’s Picnic..

If you go down to the woods today… This is an adorable party theme which needn’t be reserved for first birthdays only. Best for the spring and summer months where picnic blankets can be spread under trees in the garden, we love the idea of inviting guests to bring their favourite teddy with them, and setting up a basket of teddy bear ears for everyone to wear on arrival. As the nursery rhyme dictates, ‘you’d better go in disguise…’

Jungle Animals..

For jungle or zoo-themed birthday celebration, party food could be served in brown paper bags, like safari packed lunches. And instead of party bags, why not set up a wild animal ‘adoption point’ for the end of the party, where every child gets to pick a cuddly toy to take home with them? Another lovely idea for party favours is to find a few sets of these cute IKEA finger puppets, and present one each in mini gift boxes with a flourish of green tissue paper.

It’s party time! Happy planning, nannies!
