Half Term Adventures!

Half Term Adventures! Half term is here and your little charges are ready for a break from school and are hoping for some time to relax, have fun and refuel. For you, this means entertaining these energetic bundles and keeping them busy. So what activities keep children occupied and engaged through their half term holidays? From museums to parks to treasure trails, it’s time to get outside, hope the sun shines and let the adventures begin..

Get Active:

Adventure days can be a great way to challenge children, allowing them to try new things in a safe environment. If you are feeling like it’s time to push your charge outside of their comfort zone, why not head over to Go Ape, Kidzania or to a local climbing wall for some abseiling. Physical exertion during the holidays is an excellent way to allow children to let off some steam and should result in them feeling a great sense of achievement. Make sure you have plenty of snacks and water at the ready to keep them climbing all the way to the top.

Absorb Yourselves in Culture:

We can all be guilty of taking our local area for granted and not taking advantage of what is right on our doorstep. This half term, why not look around your local community and visit the castle, ruins or museum for a little education in local history. Allowing children to gather knowledge of where they are from is a great way to develop their cultural understanding, allowing them to be inquisitive and develop awareness of others. So, whether you decide to find out about Roman Bones at the Museum of London or head to the Horniman Museum in Forest Hill to see spectacular landmarks recreated with Lego, you will all be in for a treat. Perfect for a curious charge!

Nature Ninjas:

With winter on its way out and spring taking a step forward, your charges may be ready to get back outside, make some mud pies and see what’s lurking in the weeds. Forest schools, local parks and zoos tend to have lots of activities for children that allow them to meet the animals, create artwork out of the local environment and generally get a little muddy. If you’re interested in developing survival experts, why not take them to Hyde Park to learn how to build a campfire or to Chelsea Physic Garden to meet some creepy crawlies and learn about their habitats.

Keeping it Cheap and Cheerful:

Whilst there are plenty of opportunities for you to attend specific classes, activities or workshops, there are also many things you can do without having to pay an entrance fee. Local libraries and leisure centres often host special events during half term that will engage inquisitive minds. You should also look out for story time and book signings in your local book shops, music activities in local parks or sporting activities connected to the school.

With so many opportunities available, every day will be filled with exploration, excitement and will result in exhausted little children, ready for bed. Embrace half term and have some fun!
